The Goeller Family

How do you put into words an experience that is deeper than anything physical, that leaves you in awe of God's providential hand on your life and His deep desire to give good gifts to His children? This was our experience with the adoption of our daughter Shiloh Michelle.

As missionaries, we've been in many situations where God showed Himself strong on our behalf, but none of them have been as poignant as the process of receiving a new life into our family. Less than two years into our marriage, while serving overseas, we were told that it would be highly unlikely for Maria to conceive. It was a heavy blow and brought us many times to God's feet in mourning, wondering why. We'll never forget the day He spoke clearly to our hearts that it was not because we had done anything wrong, but because He has a greater plan in store for us. So, we waited and trusted.

On our return to the states for a furlough, we felt God prompting us to begin the process of adoption. The was a HUGE leap of faith for us. For poor missionaries just off the field, the financial hurdle seemed insurmountable, but God encouraged us once again to trust Him because His work done His way will never lack His funds. So, in May we bagan the paper chase.

In October, we received a call from Show Hope that SCC would be performing a concert in our area. They offered us tickets to attend as adoption representatives, and we were thrilled to be a part of encouraging others to take that same step of faith. We had no idea the surprise that God had waiting for us.

Steven's concert was such an encouragement. One of the songs from his new album talks about love making you do "something crazy." My wife and I just laughed; we knew all too well what that was like. As we stepped on stage, the love of God through Steven and his team just wrapped around us. That night, we not only found ourselves the recipients of a grant, but even more meaningful was the prayer of blessing we received. We drove home praising God and smiling from ear to ear as we felt our Lord saying, "I"ve got it all under conrtol...just TRUST."

Four days later, we received a phone call that changed our lives forever. Our daughter had been born two days before and was waiting for us to come pick her up. That night we drove home as parents to our beautiful Shiloh. God knew we would need assurance of His provision on this journey. He also knew the perfect timing to show us that His love and plans are beyond all that we could ask or think...all to HIS glory,

This process was so amazing that we have just embarked on our next adoption adventure. We hope to add a sibling group from Uganda to our family!

Every time we look at our daughter we are reminded of the events that led up to her joining our family, and we thank God for Show Hope and the team that invests their lives and time caring for orphans. May the Lord continute to show HImself strong on your behalf!
