Advocacy
Because of the platform that has been granted, Show Hope has had the opportunity to meet with world leaders around the globe in order to speak up on behalf of orphans. Show Hope founder and advocate Steven Curtis Chapman and his wife, Mary Beth, as well as Show Hope staff such as Executive Director Scott Hasenbalg and his wife Kerry, have had many invitations to share with U.S. politicians and international leaders about the plight of orphans and our responsibility to act.
Highlights of our advocacy work include:

Sowing Seeds in China
In 2005, Show Hope and Steven Curtis Chapman laid groundwork for partnerships in China in an effort to help care for the many orphans in that country. We donated $10,000 for the “Tomorrow Plan,” a government project assisting over 30,000 orphans in need of corrective surgeries, and SCC performed on one of China’s biggest broadcast networks, which reached over one billion people. Show Hope has been granted unique favor in China as a result of our work, SCC’s music, and the Chapman’s story of adoption, and we are committed to working with the Chinese government to help provide the highest level of care possible for their orphans in need.
Advocacy in El Salvador
Also in 2005, Mary Beth Chapman traveled to El Salvador with a group of social welfare experts from the U.S. to meet with the First Lady and other government officials to be a voice and advocate for orphaned children. In 2009, Show Hope participated in a follow up trip to identify areas that of work that can be established to help promote holistic orphan care as well as to continue to advance opportunities for adoption.
Bringing Hope to Uganda
Over the last four years, Show Hope has specifically targeted the country of Uganda, Africa, as one that we can impact. Initially, the Chapman family and Show Hope traveled to the war-torn region of northern Uganda, Africa. Meeting with both national and regional leaders, Show Hope was able to continue highlighting the needs of the orphaned children in that area. Discovering the desperation in this region, they turned their exploratory trip into instant action and began their work there by providing shelter for over 30 orphaned children. Creating relationships as well, SH has continued to build in anticipation of further work in that country. A follow up trip and continued investment in partners in that area has yielded promising opportunities for Kingdom work in that country.
Bringing Hope to Honduras
In 2007, Show Hope began it’s involvement in Honduras with a visit to it’s capital, Tegucigalpa, as part of a delegation that included child welfare professionals, orphan care providers, social workers, lawyers, and adoptive families. This delegation was successfully able to speak into the child welfare issues that the Honduran government is facing, advocate for orphans and adoption, and provide a foundation for future discussions and collaborations. Follow up trips in 2008 and 2009 included meetings with the First Lady and orphan care providers in both Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula, and Show Hope announced their first mission trips to Honduras for the summer of 2009 in partnership with Buckner International.Need Content for Advocacy
