Tsunami Relief/East Asia

Thanks to the outpouring of generosity that followed the devastating tsunami in South Asia, December, 2004, Shaohannah’s Hope was able to link arms with organizations such as Children of Promise International and Gospel for Asia, to name a few, to support immediate as well as ongoing relief in Sri Lanka, India and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Gospel for Asia repsonded to the need of thousands of children who lost parents in the tsunami by giving them a hope and a future through the GFA Bridge of Hope school program.  Donations to GFA are being used to provide a quality education to these children by paying for tuition, books, uniforms, and meals.

As a result of gifts from organizations like Shaohannah's Hope, Children of Promise was also able to team up with Relevant Expeditions to help restore lives wrecked by the disaster.  The first outreach effort to “raise a village” was a farming work trip made that cleared 1 and 1/2 acres of land for farming, uprooting and burning all the trees and brush that was in the way.  This was done while training the local population to clear the land so many more acres can be used for farming.  The village was given a hand tractor, water pump, hand tools, food, and gifts for the children.  Now that relationships have been established, they hope to return to accomplish more projects such as restoring and building homes, providing a clean water supply, and pouring concrete.
