Uganda

Joyce is about 3 years old and lives in an orphanage in Kitgum, Uganda, Africa.  Uganda has been plagued by a terrorist group called the LRA, the lord's resistance army, for the past 18 years. This group abducts children in order to expand their army.  Once abducted, the LRA uses horrific abusive measures to force these children to become soldiers and killers. But Joyce and 34 other orphans have hope. A woman named Lois in a little place called Tender Trust is caring for these precious children. The home doesn’t have running water, electricity, or windows. The girls sleep in one room, the boys in another, and what few items they possess hang in bags from hooks like a little day care center. There is no doubt however, that Jesus is there with those children and with the woman that loves them. Lois is the physical Jesus that to these children in a powerful way. Every day, day in and day out, she is there meeting their most basic needs, feeding them, clothing them, protecting them, loving them.

In August 2005, the Chapman family and Shaohannah’s Hope traveled to Uganda, Africa and decided to partner with Tender Trust to help rebuild this orphanage.  Currently, this orphanage cares for 35 parentless children.  There are so many more homeless children roaming the streets in this region, and the need is much greater.  Shaohannah's Hope has teamed up with Tender Trust and Far Reaching Ministries to build a newer facility that will provide shelter and care to an estimated 50 orphans.
